Reflections! ^^

Reflections :

Adella's.

First day after we reached Malaysia, we went to Orang Asli by speed boat and we get to enjoy the ride, the beautiful views, and the beautiful lotus plant. Went to visit Orang Asli to see how they live, what type of house they stay in, how different it is from us.

They live in the kind of our past kampong houses, their present less developed estates.
They are not like us, having good condition of living; don’t have good food like us having a spread of good food. They hunt for their own food.

Second day, we went to look at some of the sea, how they made their sea walls and the beautiful sea side scenery, and went to a place where we did our practical geography fieldwork by knowing how to measure the height, width, depth, length and speed of the river. And also get to see the beautiful scenery of the waterfall. We also went to see how people did the clothing printings and saw how they made the clothing and the drawings they did on the shirts.

Third day, we went to breathe fresh air and a mini hiking at the forest. Then we headed to the SUNBEAM ORPHANAGE. At the beginning, no one dares to go forward to the kids as we are shy or don’t know them. As they also are shy don’t dare to talk to us. But slowly, peicaians one by one approached them, they also slowly approach us. Some are very shy to talk and some would not dare to join us in games and activities.

But at the end, is still a good ending and a nice memory to them and to us.

Fourth day went to visit some Malaysia history and had a shopping time in the afternoon before we went back Singapore

Ending:
Nice, beautiful, memorable trip

Gilbert's

The trip was fun and a enjoyable one... basically i enjoyed the food very much, haha! and i like the environment there.

Everything was simple and carefree like, no competition and so on. Went to the "orangutan's" place(sounds more original than orang asli isn't it?), LOL! we took those sampan boat(but with a motor behind) to the orangutan's area...AND I LIKED THE BOAT RIDE + THE ORANGUTAN'S PLACE!!

Probably it's because of the carefree lifestyle(don't really compete fr status, fame or money) that they're leading. Hunting, cooking and just dealing with raw materials, very little c02 produce, quiet, are the things that i can use to describe the place and lastly i fell original in that kinda environment(better if i go more original without my _ _ _ _ _ _ _ on....HAHA!)

Seriously, i would like that place to be one of my getaway place if possible..Before entering the orphanage, my perception of children in there was glummy, sad and quite...BUT AFTER I WENT IN, THINGS ARE TOTALLY DIFFERENT AS I'VE THOUGH!

I saw kids running about like a team of rugby players trying to get the ball, and i was quite shocked to see that....my heart felt lighter after playing with the kids there :D AND I FEEL GREAT!!!! So after entering the orphanage, perception totally changed, maybe what i see is just the outside? But i still find that the kids there are very positive with us...and this remind us that we should cherish the people around us, because everyone around us including our parents, best friends and people we love start from being a stranger...make sense right?? So maybe if you see your eye candy next time, JUST GO FOR THEM!! Cos in future they might be someone important to you:)))

And I've learn a lot from mother nature, and human's quality through this trip. If I'm given a chance in future, i would want to go again.

Yiteng's.

I learnt a lot of things which i cannot learn from the textbook. example. at orang asli i saw people which using pipe to kill animals to earn some income.. and its the first time i ever saw a waterfall in front of my eyes.. its so nice..

Coast and seawall is so special. the seawall i saw in Malaysia compared to the textbook is so different.the most unforgettable memory is the orphanage. The childrens' there youngest is 2 and oldest is 22 years old.. they look so innocent and cute.. some of them love to make friends,, i am so glad that i went for the trip and its a good experience for me =)

 Ivan's.

To be frank, i wasn't very excited to go for this Malaysia trip at all. But after going for the trip, i didn't regret at all. Brought back many priceless and memorable memories back. Visited the orang asli the first day by speed boat. Enjoyed the trip. Manage to see the vegetation that they have and they depend on to earn for a living. The orang asli lived a very different culture from all of us. Their houses are made out of wood. They got to hunt for their own food, depend on tourism to earn an living.

Did our fieldwork the second day. Had fun. Manage to see for ourselves the factors that affects the speed of the river like the gradient, width of the river.. etc... Its seriously an AWESOME trip for us to learn better. Get to experience whatever that we learn in the textbook as well as learning extra stuffs.

Went to the orphanage to do our Cip. Visiting the orphanage is like giving me an wake up call. It reminds me to cherish whatever i have now and live life happily. It also reminds me how God works on those that are unfortunate then us and his love for us too.Its seriously an AWESOME experience for me! After all was very happy that i went for this trip and bring back those precious yet priceless memories.^^

 Dolly's.

Woah, what can I say? This trip has really been an eye opener for me! I was very excited for this trip and had prepared and bought stuffs in advance just for the trip! Was late for the first day, though. Well, as usual, tardy queen! My mood wasn't that good and I was feeling crappy but the Orang Aslis changed my negativity!

Leading a very simple yet happy life, they had no wealth or riches. They enjoyed the way they are now and have no complaints at all! Salute! They just live off by the income they get from tourism like us and the lotus plantation that they had. The Orang Aslis also showed us how they hunted animals with the blowpipe that you guys have seen in Day One's post. Boat ride was awesome!

So through their lives, this has taught me not to take things for granted and we, Singaporeans are actually living a far more better life than them but yet we complain on every little thing. Lol, the Singaporean genes. So I'mma cherish what I have and own now! :D

Moving on to Day Two, COASTS
As during Geography, we can choose either Coasts, or Natural Vegetation. I find Natural Vegetation easier and only concentrated on that, neglecting Coasts though I love the marine life. But during this outing to 3 types of water bodies, I've learnt how erosion takes place in the cliff, how they formed headlands and bays. Of course, the volcanic rocks as well! Had an enjoyable time doing fieldwork with the crew! Not forgetting the gorgeous scenery of the waterfall. It was WOW!

Then came Day Three!
This was the day that I ed the most, cause I met Peiyi, that adorable little girl! :D Well, frankly speaking, I wasn't looking very forward for the trip to the Orphanage. Cause I thought that the place will be oh-so-gloomy and there will be sad kids all around, missing and wondering where their parents are. But they proved me wrong!

They were all so cheery and full of sunshines! We played with them, made a fool out of ourselves and just enjoyed the two hours we spent with them. Cute bubbly little kids! Love their naive-ness and optimistic view in life. If it was me, I'll emo everyday in one dark corner man.

Then headed to FRIM. Luckily I didn't kenna any leech! v(^-^)v
Learning stuffs through sight is truly an amazing and wonderful thing! I the lianas man. They were interestingly pretty thought they're harmful to the trees.

Last but not least, Sightseeing and shopping.
Abit boring, but got to see the famous tourist attractions in Malaysia. Learnt their cultures along the way.

♥ So basically, I'm cleverer and I'm so glad that I went for this trip! Thank God nobody was kidnapped or hurt! :D Thank God for such a fine hotel as well! For I tried it on the last day and felt like a Princess. :D

Well, not only does this trip is priceless, I also bonded with my classmates and got to know new friends as well! No regrets, nope. None at all. :)
These precious memories will not leave me, as long as internet and computers live!

End of our reflections!

Sightseeing!

Day Four,

It was the last day of our trip. Visited some places of interest in Malaysia and all of their hottest tourist attractions. First stop we went was this famous Temple. It's very unique as it contains 3 different religions in it under one roof, known as the Taoism, Buddhism and Confucious.

It was very smoky there due to the smoke from the incense worshippers offered and many different types of statues were there from a range of big to small. Aunty Eileen also taught us how the people worshipped by casting out lots and later on throwing two kidney-shaped wooden blocks to determine if the Gods their worshipping to accpeted or rejected their request.

So many steps. Abit complicated eh.

So after the little tour in the Temple with 3 religion, we were allowed forty minutes of shopping break! :>

Passed by this shop that sells Nyonya clothwear, handmade beaded shoes and more stuffs about the Nyonyas!

Everyone bought some things but were still not satisfied as we wanted a real shopping trip! Yuppyupp, moving on.

We were brought to many beautiful places and our second stop was giving the Portuguese area a visit. Hmm, didn't know that there were so many cultures, religions and different countries of people living in Malaysia! My impression of Malaysia were always, "Malays, Halal Food everywhere, Muslims." I didn't know there were Chinese, let alone Portuguese! Yeah, stereotypical of me, I know.

Our Bus stopped at this carpark.

Pretty pretty!

Gorgeous view! Someone mentioned that he wanted to marry here. LOL.

And this is a stage for the Portuguese to perform at night, whenever they have some special occasion going on. They live a a vibrance and interesting life yeah?

And so, Aunty Eileen led us to see one the houses where the Portuguese lived. While walking, I noticed a Christian Church! Aunty Eileen said that the Portuguese were Christians. Cooooooool.

"This may be one of the last Portuguese houses you see here. As you can see, it's made purely from wood. The reason why there's not many these type of houses left standing anymore were due to financial issues. As wood were much more costly than normal concrete homes, people than rather buy the cheaper, concrete house instead of this wooden one." Aunty Eileen explained.

Hahah. I didn't know there were Christians in Malaysia, too! So exciting. :D And after viewing all the Portuguese stuffs, we headed back to our bus.

Now, we're turning in to the Malay area. Before reaching our destination, we passed by this school.

CANOSSA CONVENT, can you believe it?!
This was my PRIMARY SCHOOL! The SAME BADGE! Gosh. This is uber cool!!

Oki, now to the Malays!

There's this magical well that claims that there never fails to have water inside it, even when there's a drought. Cool right! Gilbert trying out the water.

Look at their house man! Prettily built with cute steps. Looks so welcoming!

Aunty Eileen further explained that they are holes and spaces in between the house.
This is a sideview of how that house up there looks like. Notice the holes I've drew and that they're built up so tall, instead of starting their base on groundfloor? Why? The next picture explains why!

So that they could move the house literally!
The blue sticks I've drew above represents thick, wooden sticks, and these sticks will go through the house and a couple of strong men will then literally move the house to another location. Cool, ain't it?

Was allowed like, fifteen minutes break for shopping!

Alright, moving on! As the bus came to a hault, I sat at my seat looking out through the windows and took this down. :)

A mosque!

More mosque!

Nice graffiti! The whole stretch of drain were filled with these art. Coooool.

Can you see a man sleeping at the left hand side near the plants?

We were then brought to this place where they have loads of flags aligned together. The tallest and biggest Malaysian flag were also present!

The pride of Malaysians.

They have very fine craftsmen eh? So pwetty lah! Anyway, these buildings that I have took were joined together.
The most left of the building.

The middle of the building.

The most left of the building.

I have no idea what this is but it looked beautiful. Like one of the buildings in Rome eh.

Not forgetting a whole group picture! :D

Up next, we gave Cocoa Boutique a visit!

They sell pure chocolates there and have a wide range of varieties! There's real durian and strawberry fruits, even the infamous Tongkat Ali. LOL. But the most unique flavour is still the Hot Chilli and Curry one. As Malaysia is known for their spices, they created this flavour. SO COOL.

Afterwhich, more sightseeing againnnnn.

And finally, LUNCH! :D
Had Nyonya dishes for lunch. The food was greaaaat and aweeeesome man. Seriously. It's yums! ♥

My rice. Yuppyupp, I only ate this portion of rice. Hahah!

Yumyums! ♥♥♥

Photos of our table. :)

And went sightseeing more againnnn!

Pwetty pwetty!

Mosqueeee.

Close-up view.

Cute ship!

And this ferris wheel thingy.

Twin towers! Beautiful right!

After tour heavenly lunch and having done with our sightseeing, we were then brought to a bigggg shopping mall and were allowed three hours! WHEEEEEEE.

COOL RIGHT!
Saw this lovely car in a shoe shop!! ♥

And furry animal rides for kids.

Once the time was up, all of us headed back to our Coach and were on our way back to our hometown, Singapore.

Took a picture with our dear tour guide, Aunty Eileen before we left Malaysia's custom!

Yuppyupp, that's all for our Malaysia trip. I believed all who went there have no regrets and became smarter! I hoped you guys learnt something new through this blog and study hard for our upcoming O's!

Of course, do not forget to party like a rockstar, too!

*Winks. ;)

FRIM & Orphanage ♥

 Day Three,

Went to FRIM which is also known as, Forest Institute of Research Malaysia. It’s an organization that does forest research to better improve the rainforests in Malaysia. An example will be by modifying the genes of the seeds to grow fruits faster, mix other genes of fuits to produce a sweet, big and tasty fruit e.g D24 etc.

This actually helped us to have better understanding to our Geography related topics like Georgraphy of Food and Forest & Natural Vegetation.

So basically, we bused down to FRIM's office and was given an hour talk on how to conserve Forests and why are Forests important to humans. The guy was humurous and interesting! Pretty cool cause this actually helped us to pay more attention to what he wants to present to us!
After having an enjoyable discussion and talk, we were led by a tour guide (Not Aunty Eileen) who will bring us touring around to have a look at these magnificent rainforest.

We were introduced to a small pond and were asked to clap our hands. She later explained that by clapping our hands, it symbolises the calling of the humongous fishes in that pond, and they will surface up. Doubting her words, all of us started clapping our hands and indeed, they starts to surface up and we noticed one very big, fat and juicy fish. LOL. However, our tour guide told us that that fish was not the biggest in the pond. The biggest and longest fish measures up to 2metres! Scary, ain't it?
This particular fish measures about 1.7metres, if I remember correctly. Hmm..

So we continued our walk after being awed by that clap-clap-fish!

As we walked through the forest, the tour guide will stop occasionally to give us pointers on what type and species of tree that is, and what functions do they provide, whether if it's hard wood or soft wood, is it able to use for furniture and so on.

In addition to that, we learnt that trees have many different type of uses as well! It provides us with medication, helps reduce global warming by absorbing the extra CO2 that we humans have produced in our daily activity and returning us fresh oxygen, take in the polluted air given out by factories and motor wehicles as well, and many more!

So guys,
 SAVE THE TREES!

Cause they can help reduce global warming and thus, water level will not increase that much per year, resulting in hope for Singapore as Singapore is one of the low-land island that risk getting swallowed by the Sea! To summarize this, saving trees = saving lives!

LOL.

Oki, back to trees...

These are bamboo! They're uber tall and strong. Thick as well! Not like those weakling bamboos you usually see as a panda's food. Well, I reckon these are 10 times of the normal bamboos you see. Fascinated by this!

We passed by this tree that has roots called, prop roots. They resemble an animal that has a long nose, thick skin and big ears! Hahah, look like elephant?

The semi-man-made rainforest full of trees.

Walk walk walk.

And spotted these! Aren't they beautiful?! They're called Lianas and are actually harmful to the trees as they slowly wind up a tree, they fight and steal sunlight but the poor trees can't shake them off. :( Some trees even die due to lack of sunlight because of these Lianas, resulting in their unable-ness to photosynthesize and die. Aww..

But heck, they WOW-ed me when I laid my eyes upon their gorgeous curls!

They crawl, too!
The tour guide said that you can actually climb on these Lianas as they're strong and secured to the tree.

Anyway, trees are clever, too! Notice how their Canopy do not touch each other? That's because they respect each other's privacy! Hahah! No lah, only the same species of this type of trees do not touch each other, as they do not want to overlap each other, fighting for sunlight. However, this only happens in man-made rainforests, as you don't expect a natural rainforest to coincidently have all the same species of trees in one group, right?

Oh yeah, look at those roots! Joined all the way up. I reckon these are called buttress roots as rainforests have the ideal temperature and rainfall, trees tends to grow big and huge. So the roots are designed like this to support the weight of it's own tree.

And each trees were tagged with some special number code thingy. Furthermore, look at the ground! It's all covered with dead leaves and thus, forming leaf litter. Leaf litter contains alot of nutrients and will help fertilise the soil, as the trees will take in nutrients from the soil, the leaf litter then replenishes the nutrients, like a cycle. Cool huh?

The walk was not very long uh. But it was quite adventurous as it's a tad bit difficult to walk due to the uneven platforms, slippery mud and stuffs. Still, it's a new experience for us and what's more, there's pure and fresh oxygen, too! Here's serenity away from the hustle and bustle of our usual Singaporean lifestyle.

So we got out of the rainforest and headed off to lunch. Three unlucky people got leeches stuck on them! In case you guys don't know what a leech is, here's a picture of one leech sucking some blood.

As it hung on the underside of leaves, waiting for careless legs to brush against these leaves so that they could leech on our blood. Initially, they were about 2cm long. But we heard that it could really expand and go big, fat and juicy! Well, according to the victims, they could feel nothing, no pain at all. Hmm...

Moreover, you couldn't just pluck out the leech as it literally sticks on you like the elephant brand superglue. Even if you successfully plucks them out, the teeth will still bi in your wound, resulting in profuse bleeding. So the best way to overcome this is!

TADAH!

Axe brand medicated oil! Pour this on the leech and they will immediately lose their grip and drop off on it's own. Credits go to Madam Yusma for this information!

Yuppyupp!

Ate our lunch and headed off to Sunbeam Orphanage ! ♥

SCREAM FOR PEIYI!

When we reached there, the kids were all running around all over the place, playing like how we used to play when we were much younger. However none of us moved a muscle as we were all foreign to each other and stared blankly to one another.

There, running about all over the place.

Just then, something appeared! Nope, it's not a shooting star, neither was it a bird. It was a hero! It was Jiaxin! LOL.

So Jiaxin the Great started cue first, and approached this bubbly little girl named PeiYi. Both of us clicked immediately and she stuck on to me like a Liana. Cool right!

Evidence of Jiaxin the Great reaching out to Peiyi!

And success! FIRST BLOOD! :D

This picture is for Xavier.
See! Peiyi with you not happy, she never smile. She's much better off and happier with me! >;)

Mark's team joined ours for Musical Chair and off we go, setting up chairs in a circle.

Musical Chairs.

Mark, being the judge or something?

Xavier trying to find an empty chair to sit on!

Me, guiding Peiyi! ♥

Everybody so gan-chiong. Hahah!

And when the music stopped, Alvin and I were fighing over the last chair available!
Guess who won?

Peiyi and I! :D

After a few rounds of Musical Chairs. All of us were dead beat and were perspiring like nobody's business. So we changed game! Into,

Eagle Catch Little Chicks! LOL.

I roared like some tiger even though it clearly stated Eagle Catching Little Chicks. LOL.
Yeah, everyone made a fool out of themselves and we were back into our childhood days. People were all looking at us as if we're all oh-so-childish but it doesn't matter cause I believed that everyone knew this would bring a smile to those cute little kids there and this little sacrifice was nothing! WOOHOO! Did I just described how great and awesome 5a-ians were?! :D

Me, a lion-eagle wannabe.

I volunteered to be the Eagle for the first round, and Hong Guo the Mother Hen.

Trying to catch some chicks while the other kids learn some origami.

Hong Jin and his little one being the Eagles, while Alvin act as our Mother Hen, protecting us, the Little Chicks!

Lousy Hong Jin still cannot catch some Chicks.

Hmm, I thought I'm the chick this time round?

Gripping firmly to each other so that they won't be caught so easily.
PEIYI IS SUPERBLY KAWAII!

Peiyi's slipper dropped halfway. Hahah!

A few couple of rounds and by then, we were all exhausted to the max. Changed game, again! Peiyi and the other guys suggested Choo-choo-train. LOL. So we just play only! Since it's a more relaxing game.

The two tallest guys will be our Pillars of Strength.

Starring,

Mark Ong! and...

Hong Guo!

I'm the front that goes, "Choo-choo!".

Choo-choo-train lasted for only around ten minutes, and running out of physical big movements games, we seated them down in a circle and played some not-so-tiring-with-so-much-movements games like Oh~Macoroni.

Forming a cirle with chairs.

Hong Jin communicating happily with one little cute boy.

ULTIMATE CUTENESS! ♥

I got terribly bullied by them. :(

Settled down and took one group photo!

Peaceeee! v(^-^)v

I then gave Peiyi strawberry flavoured chewing gums as she so happens to like strawberries, too! This is a reward for her for being sooo adorable. HAHAH! Yeah, I'm bias. :D

When the time was ripe, it was time for our whole bus performance! We seated every kid down and prepared our Hybrid Nobody dance with the Chicken Dance. Lol.

Well, but met up with some techinal problems as the speaker had no batt and Mark needed to rushed all the way back to the Coach to fetch his charger. Blasted the music and danced!

After the whole group performance, the malay boys came up with tecktonik dance and we came up with the Pink Panther's Dalang with Show Luo's 爱的主场秀.

A picture of our Pink Panther's Dalang!

Followed by the malay boys' Tecktonik!

Last but not least, our 爱的主场秀!

Hybrid Chicken and Nobody Dance.
Click that link to see our whole group dance video!

Pink Panther's Dalang, Tecktonik and Show Luo's 爱的主场秀.
Click that link to see the extra show we put on. :)

Sidenote : The storyline behind the second link goes like this.

Firstly, we will dance the Pink Panther's Dalang Dalang. As it's deemed childish, the malay boys will take over and show off their Tecktonik dance. However, us again, were "utterly disgusted" by their arrogance and shoo-ed them away, showing them our real abilities. LOL. It's oh-so-drama-mama!

When everything ended, abit unbearable to leave eh. Though they were placed in a place like this, they appeared optimistic and hung huge, lovely sunshine smiles on their faces. Seeing their genuine smiles just gave me the energy to carry on and washed away all negativity.

Though we made a fool out of ourselves, all of us knew that all was worthwhile. They were all very positive little kids. Although they are less fortunate then us, but they are still enjoying life as usual just like all of us. This reminds me that we should cherish whatever we have now and live happily, live life to the fullest yo! Time flies so fast and it's time to say goodbye. It's rather sad to leave them. Many were hugging each other saying their Goodbyes. It was such a heartwarming moment! ♥

So the day ended like this. Day Four's gonna be a short one. Thank God! :D

Tata, off to hit the sacks!
